LOS ANGELES, CA – Actor-writer-comedians Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang announced the 97th Oscars® nominations today (January 23), live from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater via a global live stream on Oscar.com, Oscars.org and the Academy’s digital platforms, Disney+, Hulu, an international satellite feed and broadcast media.

Sennott and Yang announced the nominees in two groups starting at 5:30 a.m. PT, followed by the remaining categories at 5:41 a.m. PT.

Emilia Pérez received the most Academy Award nominations for a non-English-language film with thirteen, surpassing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) and Roma (2018) with ten. For her performance in the film, Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón became the first openly trans performer to be nominated for Best Actress. Coralie Fargeat became the ninth woman to be nominated for Best Director. Fernanda Torres became the second Brazilian person to be nominated for Best Actress (the first was her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, in 1999). Gints Zilbalodis‘s animated film Flow became the first Latvian film to earn multiple nominations: Best Animated Feature and Best International Feature Film, the second animated film to receive nominations in both categories after Flee (2021). Adam Elliot‘s stop-motion animated film Memoir of a Snail became the second R-rated animated film to be nominated after Anomalisa (2015), another stop-motion animated film.

Nominations have been delayed twice due to the raging fires in Southern California, which upended the entertainment industry just as Hollywood’s annual awards season kicked off. The annual Academy luncheon honoring nominees was cancelled altogether.

As of now, the Oscars are still scheduled to be handed out on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
