Ben Affleck’s ‘Live By Night’ Premieres in Hollywood

Written and Directed by Ben Affleck, Live By Night had it’s Hollywood Premiere on Monday (January 9, 2017). His multi-tasking credits also list Affleck as a producer along with another Hollywood heavyweight, Leonardo DiCaprio.

A-listers Matt Damon and Casey Affleck attended the premiere to show support as well as upcoming “Justice League”‘s Aquaman Co-Star, Jason Momoa.

The film itself centers on the Roaring `20s and Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve, and Joe Coughlin (Ben Affleck), the son of the Boston Police superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules, and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll.

“Live by Night” is the fourth Hollywood movie based on a Dennis Lehane novel, who also wrote “Mystic River,” “Shutter Island” and “Gone Baby Gone,” which was Affleck’s directorial debut.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Affleck talks about his love of classic films, “I was absolutely looking to pay homage to those great classic films that made me fall in love with movies,” said Affleck. “Film noir has flavored this a lot. This film is very rich with influences from other directors. This is about trying to do things the way I have seen them done.”

Produced with a budget of 65 million, it is set for wide release in the USA on January 13, 2017.
