Thor: Ragnarok the third installment in the Marvel hero franchise, held its world premiere Tuesday (October 10, 2017) in Hollywood at El Capitan Theatre.
Fans lined the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard hoping for a glimpse of star Chris Hemworth, who launched the role in 2011 with the original Thor and its sequel Thor: The Dark World and appeared in the Avengers films. Making it a challenge for some of the fans to see their “Hero” was the tent that covered the red carpet, no doubt for security reasons in view of the recent tragic events in Las Vegas.
Returning characters in the film include Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, while Cate Blanchett plays a new character, the villain Hela. They all walked the carpet as well as Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum, Rachel House Clancy Brown, also in the film.
In an interview recently, Chris Hemworth talked about his sibling rivalry and having brothers in the business while admitting to W Magazine that it was his younger brother that pushed him to nab the role of Thor. After all, he couldn’t very well let little brother Liam snatch the coveted role out from under him.
The Marvel star revealed he flubbed his first audition for Thor. “I came into the audition with Kenneth Branagh and thought I nailed it and then never heard anything back. Months went by and then my brother, my little brother, Liam, was in Australia and sent a tape across and he got a call back, then another call back and then was down to the last kind of four or five people for it,” Hemsworth said.“I remember sitting in Vancouver, shooting Cabin in the Woods with Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon. Both of them were looking at the trades at this sort of top five guys for Thor and saying, ‘Why aren’t you in the mix here? What happened?’ I said, ‘I don’t know. I blew my audition I guess.’”
As it turned out, none of those in-the-running were offered the movie’s titular role, and this opening gave Hemsworth one more chance at winning the part.“I came in kind of with a little, I guess, motivation and maybe frustration that my little brother had gotten further than me. It’s a little family, sibling rivalry sort of kicked up in me. Then it moved pretty quick from there. It was cool.”
Hemsworth is no doubt very happy to have won the role that cemented his stardom – as Thor has become one of the MCU’s most enduring heroes.
The film officially hits theaters Nov. 3. 2017. For more info visit the official Thor: Ragnarok website.
