Kristen Stewart and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o are in early talks to star in Sony’s Charlie’s Angels reboot, which has Elizabeth Banks attached to direct. The film is slated for release in 2019.

The female led action show originally ran on ABC from 1976-1981, producing five seasons and 110 episodes. The popular TV show produced by Aaron Spelling and labeled by critics as “Jiggle TV” (for specifically emphasizing the sex appeal of the female leads) follows the crime-fighting adventures of three women working in a private detective agency in Los Angeles, California. The show originally starred Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett-Majors, and Jaclyn Smith in the leading roles, with David Doyle co-starring as a sidekick to the three women, and, John Forsythe providing the voice of their boss, the unseen Charlie Townsend, who directed the ‘Angels’ crime-fighting operations over a speaker-phone. There were a few casting changes, after the departure of Fawcett and Jackson, came the additions of Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack, and Tanya Roberts.

The TV Series was popular enough that years later it spawned 2 feature films in 2000 and 2003. Those films starred Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore and made a combined $500+ million worldwide.

Kristen Stewart, known for her role as Bella in the Twilight film franchise, will next be seen in thriller Underwater. Nyong’o’s next project is Marvel’s Black Panther.

This latest reboot is set for release on June 7, 2019.
