Imdb (Internet Movie Database), the preeminent online database of information related to films, television programs, and video games, including cast, production crew, fictional characters, biographies, plot summaries, trivia and reviews has unveiled it’s ranking for the top 10 stars and Top 10 Breakout Stars of 2015. These a a bit different than the usual lists compiled by other entertainment related publications or websites because they don’t rely on small statistical samplings, reviews of professional critics or box office performance. Imdb, bases it’s unique findings on the actual page views of its substantial web viewership. 250 million monthly unique visitors help to form the rankings.
These latest findings reveal that returning champ Tom Hardy is the #1 Star of 2015 (he was Also IMDb’s #1 star in 2012), dethroning IMDb’s 2014 top star, Shailene Woodley (who Ranks #6 this year).

Keith Simanton, IMDb’s Senior Film Editor reflects on the findings.“In Mad Max: Fury Road Tom Hardy is surrounded by strong female characters ‒ which is fitting,” “While Tom Hardy is IMDb’s #1 star of 2015, he is also the only male actor to crack IMDb’s otherwise all-female Top 10 Stars of 2015 and 2014 lists. Similarly, Scott Eastwood is the only male actor to chart on the IMDb Top 10 Breakout Stars of 2015 list, coming in at #10.”
“Bryce Dallas Howard “Jurassic World” and Lily James “Cinderella,” “Downton Abbey” also had a very strong year in 2015, as evidenced by the fact that they charted for the very first time on both the IMDb Top 10 Stars List and the IMDb Top 10 Breakout Stars list simultaneously, which means that not only did they crack IMDb’s Top 100 list for the first time in their careers in 2015, but they also were in rarified air in that they were among the top 10 most viewed stars on IMDb in 2015, as determined by page views,” said Simanton.
Simanton also noted a glaring omission in that the very popular and perennial fan favorite, Jennifer Lawrence, who was ranked #2 on the IMDb Top 10 Stars of 2014 list, #1 in 2013, #2 in 2012 and #7 in 2011 did not rank on the IMDb Top 10 Stars list this year, coming in at #18 in 2015. But Simanton does go on to say that she will probably be back next year given her current and upcoming films including her re-teaming with Bradley Cooper and David O. Russell in “Joy” this holiday season.
